Chicago IL : Hyde Park Art Center : Feb 11 - Feb 24 2008
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Famous on the Internet holds up a magnifying glass to the cutting edge folk art of Internet video. It explores this from several perspectives: the concepts of famous, infamous or popular in the Internet realm; how Internet video relates to home movies, home video and snapshots; and how many Internet videos function as folk or outsider art. The piece will neglect direct critical commentary and reinterpretation and take the works to the viewers by projecting Internet videos onto the Hyde Park Art Center facade. The method of video selection will intersect works selected by the artists with videos found using popular search terms, popular videos for specific terms and “most watched” videos.
